The table measure is , 59.5 cms/ 89 cms or 23 ½ inch /35 inch. To make the table, you need to buy a piece of quarter-inch-thick plexiglass, quarter-inch thick plywood, as we are targeting for making two tables for your sewing machine. You can use them in turn!
Next, you need wooden legs. You will get some ready-made wood posts in the stores. You can buy them, or if you use them, you can make your own as well. Our plan here is to make the process easy going for you. So, the choice is yours!
Next, you need a pattern board, ruler, scissors/ anti cutter, pencil, mini woodcutter, handy glasscutter, glass filer, drill machine, screws, and a compatible screwdriver. Now, start following the steps below-
Take the pattern board, and place it right under the presser foot of your sewing machine. Align the pattern board with the machine body as much as possible.
Carefully mark the areas on the pattern paper that are cover by the sewing machine body. After that, go ahead and cut the pattern paper following the marked areas with scissors. You can use anti-cutter as well if you want. Cut the pattern carefully. Sometimes there can be some curved area on the machine body. So, make sure those areas are being done accurately.
You can use a computer CAM program to get the pattern right. If you know how to run the program, then we encourage you to utilize that skill. If you don’t know that you can watch a few videos to learn it, it’s quite easy. Or, you can just do it manually.
Now, take the plywood, and mark the pattern on the board. Then cut it in shape with the small woodcutter. Once you are done with cutting the board, match it with the machine body. This will allow you to make adjustments. It could be too tight or loose in the corner, or at the front. Fix it all before you go for the plexiglass.
Once the plywood is set, take the plexiglass. Don’t cut the glass by using the plywood as the pattern. Make use of the actual pattern. Then cut the plexiglass with the handy glass cutter. After that, file the edges of the glass. If you don’t smooth the edges that you have cut, it will scratch the machine body! Also, not only the edges that you have cut, you should smooth out the all the outsides of the glass.
Now, take the wooden legs and adjust them with the height of the extension table. You will need 10 legs altogether. The length of the legs mainly depends on the length that you have from the needle area of the sewing machine to the main table it is perched on.
You need to add the legs with screws that you have bought. So, you need to make one hole in the middle of the legs. Now, mark the middle area of all the legs by using the pencil, then make holes by using the drill machine. You should be really careful in this step. Don’t hold the legs on the hands. Place them somewhere they will stand study, so you use a drill on them.
Now, drill the corners of the glass and plywood you want the legs on. After that, you can add the legs on the glass and plywood with some screws.
With this stage, you should be done with making the extension tables. You can remove them whenever you are done with stitching. Also, you can customize the table in a better way if you desire. The guide we have here, it’s rather a simple one.
But, you should go for the simple design first if you are a beginner, and then maybe go for some creative idea of yours! We have made some kind of table from two different materials. If you want, you can make one with the simple design that we are suggesting and the other one with your design idea.
